Heather McPherson teaches creative writing courses like Modern Humor Writing, Literary Journalism, and The Craft of Literary Magazines. She serves as the faculty advisor for the literary magazine, The Spectacle, and as the department’s career and alumni liaison.
Before going to graduate school, I spent decade working in a number of full-time and freelance editorial capacities in New York. I reported, wrote, edited, copyedited, fact-checked, and even managed staff and budgets for places as varied as Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, the New York Observer, TV Guide, Miramax Books, Workman Publishing, and Howcast media. I also taught continuing education courses at NYU to help others do the same. My primary interest is helping students recognize the power of written communication as writers and readers and to think through how this might apply to their lives outside the classroom.
