Publishing: History and Contexts

This course offers a broad introduction to book publishing, with the goal of establishing and understanding the larger issues facing publishing today, as well as the historical and cultural contexts that inform these issues. We will look at multiple types of book publishing, with a general emphasis on contemporary Anglophone trade publishing, and will have frequent class visits (via Zoom) by professionals from different sectors of the publishing community. This course satisfies one of the core requirements of the Publishing Concentration.
