Culture & Climate Committee

CCC Mission Statement

The Culture and Climate Committee serves to support a diverse community and empower an environment in the English Department where all are welcomed. The committee will do so by offering education and resources to all members of the department on ways to be inclusive of all views and identities; providing guidance for addressing microaggressions and incidents of bias; and advocating on behalf of additional actions that would further create a supportive and equitable departmental culture across all levels.

Members of the committee are elected annually on a rotating two-year term of service, and will include: two MFA students, two PhD students, two teaching track faculty, two tenure track faculty, and one staff person.

The committee is responsible for the following items:

  •
    •
        • Annual department climate survey
        • Providing guidance on how to report incidents of bias
        • Constructing and maintaining an online library relevant to the goals of the Culture and Climate Committee
        • Offering programming related to the goals of the Culture and Climate Committee
        • Reviewing department curriculum, handbooks, and policy and advocating for changes when necessary
